When people say “I’ll talk to my accountant”, all too often that means “I’ll call the office, leave a message on an answerphone and hope that somebody will call back”.
Whether you’re a local start-up company, a growing SME or the UK office of a major corporate, the Hamlyns commitment to genuine personal service remains consistent. And that means that you will always – always – be put straight through to your Partner or a senior member of the team. A named individual who knows you; who knows your specific business and financial affairs; who understands your particular needs and issues.
That’s how, over the years, we remain able to offer the flexibility and accounting agility to evolve the service we offer you in response to your changing circumstances. It’s only common sense, but it’s a commitment that our clients tell us really adds unique value to the Hamlyns experience.
Hamlyns is justifiably proud to field a peer-respected strong team of Partners, Managers and professional staff who individually bring huge breadth and depth of knowledge, experience and expertise to the practice. So in addition to assigning a Partner to every client to look after day-to-day requirements, we can also assemble precisely the right combination of specialists from within the firm to deal with any situation which may arise, from the most esoteric, complex corporation tax structures down to the more mundane, but equally important compliance issues.
At Hamlyns, we don’t simply focus on dealing with clients from specific industries or from our own local catchment area… we focus on the bigger picture, sharing each of our client’s entrepreneurial approach to business and working together to achieve success across the board. As a result, we’re privileged to work with a wide range of UK and international clients of varying sizes and from the whole spectrum of industry sectors:
- Business clients, from sole practitioners through to limited liability partnerships
- Corporate clients, from owner-managed companies through to UK subsidiaries of major foreign companies
- Private clients, from individuals with straightforward tax affairs through to ‘high net worth individuals’ with substantially more complicated financial requirements.
Impossible as they are to categorise, all our clients share one thing in common… the desire to succeed. And they value our long-term commitment to helping them achieve that goal, through Partner-led personal service combined with Hamlyns’ unequalled breadth and depth of professional experience.
At Hamlyns our commitment to quality and integrity is reflected in the fact that every one of our professional team is a member of one or more of the following professional bodies:
The ICAEW qualification, the ACA, is one of the most advanced learning and professional development programmes available. It is valued around the word in business, practice and the public sector.
The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, ACCA, is the largest and fastest growing international accountancy body for professional accountants.
As members of these professional bodies we maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct. We comply with schemes of Continuing Professional Development, ensuring our knowledge and skills are always up to date and relevant.
Hamlyns is a member of the ICAEW Practice Assurance Scheme which gives our clients the comfort that we operate within a framework of quality assurance principles. Hamlyns is also an Authorised Training Office for both the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. We have been awarded the Platinum Approved status in recognition of the support we provide for training and development of ACCA Professional scheme students and members.
Hamlyns has been awarded the Investor in People accreditation in recognition of our commitment to personnel training and development.
HM Revenue and Customs are more determined than ever to claw back money from tax payers. They no longer need to have a specific reason to investigate your personal or business affairs, yet you have to carry the burden of paying for any professional advice, whether or not they find any errors or outstanding tax. In our experience, the cost of the average HMRC investigation into your business or private tax return is over £5,000 in professional fees and, depending on the complexities of your affairs, it can be much higher. In fact, it is not unknown for businesses to feel pressurised into a tax settlement simply due to the level of professional fees incurred in dealing with an enquiry.
So what can you do to protect yourself? At Hamlyns, we recommend our clients take out Fee Protection Insurance. For a small nominal fee paid annually, you can indemnify yourself and your company against the potentially far greater costs incurred in retaining the professional assistance you will need should you be subject to an investigation or dispute with HMRC.
The cost of cover is very low in comparison to the cost of an investigation and the scheme recommended by Hamlyns is arranged through market leaders Croner Taxwise. We’ve researched this market and we believe the benefits of the scheme are best suited to the needs of our clients. In most cases, Croner Taxwise will provide you with the equivalent of up to £100,000 of professional costs per incident, resulting from a written HMRC intervention, including Employer Compliance (PAYE, P11D, NIC) and VAT.
